Mediaweek has published 10 ways for people to improve their work-life balance in 2009, contributed by Jane Alexander, health writer and author.
With people feeling that they need to work harder and longer hours due to job cut and redundancy threats, the need for a good work-life balance is greater than ever before.
Among the recommendations were having a comfortable home and social life by deciding which people you want to see rather than who you ought to see, communicating effectively with your partner to avoid later stress and problems, and making time for exercise, which will lead to a healthier and less stressed worker.
Other useful recommendations include distinguishing your home life from your work life by turning off your mobile phone and learning to occasionally live without a Blackberry and laptop 24/7! Also the tried and tested method of time management is recommended through identifying slots in the diary for big projects, small pieces of work, breaks or exercise.
It is hoped that people will recognise these top tips for a better work-life balance and apply them in 2009 leading to a happier, less-stressed and healthier worker!
