According to the founder of a new political party, office staff should be granted the right to work from home at least once a month.
Launched to coincide with the national Work From Home day, the oneDrum party called for organisations to bring in more flexible working practices.
The founder, software entrepreneur Jasper Westaway, has posted an e-petition on the No. 10 Downing Street website, urging the prime minister to introduce legislation that allows staff to work from home at least one day per month.
Westaway doesn’t wish to suggest that flexible working policies will fix the economy alone but believes it’ll be an example of a “small but significant step” organisations can take towards working smarter.
A survey published last week showed that 39 per cent of small business owners would allow employees to work away from the office if they requested the option. Other findings showed that they were also keen to adopt flexible working and web-commuting, using the internet to work from anywhere, with 62 per cent stating they would personally like the opportunity to work remotely.
