Wi-Fi access with Starbucks coffee

BT has announced that it’s struck a deal with Starbucks to provide Wi-Fi access at more than 650 of its coffee shops across the UK and Ireland.

The deal will allow 4.6 million BT broadband customers to surf the internet or to make VoIP calls at Starbucks.

The first stores will have the service installed this week, with the roll out set to be completed by the end of the month.

Chris Bruce, chief executive officer of BT Openzone, believes that coffee shops are becoming increasingly popular as a place to work or go on the internet. Figures to support this claim show that the use of BT Wi-Fi doubled last year.

Starbucks state that the deal will provide an “enhanced customer experience”, which will make the coffee shop a must-go location for customers.

BT also provides Wi-Fi access at more than 150,000 UK and Ireland locations.
