In recent years, advanced IT systems have been instrumental in the expansion of remote working, enabling employees to log on and work from home or any location.
This has led to most companies having policies spelling out the procedures that must be followed for all remote workers.
However, security and data protection measures can often be overlooked in certain types of flexible arrangements. This is a danger, as threats such as swine flu prevent employees coming to work, making remote access hugely important.
A breach of security policy may have far-reaching implications for organisations. To try and prevent data security breaches happening, most employers will have in place an information security policy that links in with their home working policy and disciplinary policy.
If organisations make sure security is a top priority, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t expand their remote workforce due to all the obvious benefits that come from flexible working.
