Flexible working is more important than money to new graduate jobseekers

New research has found that flexible working, happiness in their job and learning experiences are more important to graduates than a good salary.

The research commissioned by Orange has unveiled the workplace hopes and aspirations for the class of 2010. Of the 1,000 university leavers Orange spoke with, over half (53%) expected flexible working (meaning either from a location of their choosing or outside of ‘traditional’ office hours) as standard when they begin their jobs, with 69% stressing that the option to work flexibly was important to them.

Orange claims customers can enjoy summer more with flexible working

Mobile network provider Orange has claimed that workers in the UK can make the most of the British summertime by working flexibly through the various mobile devices available.

The UK summer can be inconsistent at times but there are still days where the sun is shining, temperatures are soaring, and people are keen to get out there and enjoy the good weather. However, for many work commitments get in the way of enjoying the summer, and by the time the working day is over so is the good weather.

Flexible working could transform UK jobs

According to a new report by YouGov, businesses and workers in the UK could save around £32 billion in transport costs if companies started to implement flexible working allowing people in UK jobs to work from home.

The research, at the request of mobile phone firm Orange, found that 16 per cent of people would be willing to take a pay cut if they could live and work in their ideal location.

IT sector says “yes” to flexible working

A report has shown that flexible working is most encouraged by the mobile and IT sectors.

According to a survey by YouGov, commissioned by Orange, 39 per cent of businesses within these industries offered employees flexible working, topping a list that included media, law and health services.
