Flexible working making a comeback

The growing phenomenon of flexible working is making a comeback, according to Stephanie Sparrow at personneltoday.com. This is being driven by the impending recession and government plans to accelerate the trend by increasing the right to request flexible hours in April 2009.

The last time there was a major resurgence in flexible working was in the 1970s when a poor economy and power cuts forced then Prime Minister Edward Heath’s government to impose a three-day week. Nowadays, economic pressures could prove to be the main driving force behind the growth in people working from home.
